Digital transformation is vital for the development of the agricultural sector in every locality, as agreed by participants at an online conference held on December 27 by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD). |
According to the ministry, digital transformation has been initially applied in farming, livestock, aquaculture, and forestry, and has brought positive results. However, the implementation of digital transformation remains limited in scale and lacks synchronisation between regions and localities. Speaking at the event, MARD Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien emphasised that the importance of digital transformation in agriculture is not only seen through the application of technology to create added values to the economy, but it also helps tens of millions of farmers to access new and updated knowledge and opens up new ways of thinking and acting to catch up with the country’s development. Digital transformation in agriculture and rural development provides an opportunity and is key to realising the goal that agricultural products are produced at the lowest cost but sold at the highest price, he stressed. Participants at the conference outlined major measures to speed up the digital transformation process in agriculture and rural development, including the building of digital infrastructure, information system and database, and an IoT system to monitor agricultural data in localities. They also stressed the need to establish agricultural trading floors for agricultural products, seeds, and planting materials in order to connect domestic and international agricultural markets.
